Rickie for Captain's pick!

Captain's Picks? I think so...
Let's go back to Celtic Manor in 2010.

Rickie Fowler still hadn't won but he weaseled his way onto that team at the ripe age of 21.

Somewhat controversial,  Fowler snagged that last coveted spot from captain Corey Pavin as he cited his 7-1 Walker Cup record as a big factor. Also in that group was Tiger Woods.... oh how the times have changed again.

Rickie may have only posted what looked like a mediocre 0-1-2 record in Wales but can you recall the final match heroics late on the final day when his team needed a point or a halve. Fowler birdies his last four holes versus Edoardo Molinari and then dropped a bomb on 18 when most people might not have been able to pull the putter back... cue Mahan and the chunky monkeys. I don't even like reflecting on that...

Another reason why maybe he didn't perform as well could have might have been the fact Pavin didn't pair him with Bubba Watson!? Just a thought.. That's almost as silly as Hal Sutton's Woods/Mickelson pairing!

Courtesy of Fowler's Twitter...
2010 was filled with "Boom Baby" memories of Overton with Watson but can you imagine the dynamic by putting the two best buddies together. They even get excited about Walmart trips together... I can't even begin to imagine what would happen if they got to wear red white and blue together. I'm going to go out on a limb and say something friggin awesome...

Hell they even jump off their vacation homes together...

Fowler might have not stepped up big in the last few months but his play this year is deserving of that captain's pick by Davis Love III. He's made all three cuts in majors this year, finished 2nd at the Players and also finally knocked the monkey off his back with his first PGATOUR win at the Wells Fargo.

The other three possibles to knock him off are Snedeker, D. Johnson or Van Pelt. Van Pelt in my opinion doesn't get the spot but DJ or Sneds have both won this year so it's possible. DJ shouldn't get it, he missed the Masters and only made the cut at the British while Sneds well it's going to come down to him and Fowler but missing the US Open might just give Fowler the edge.

If he doesn't get on the team I think it would be the wrong decision but that's just my opinion.. He has the attitude to make a name for himself at Medinah. Let's also not forget he went head to head with McIlroy this year and beat him when it mattered and I'd love nothing more than to see them square off again.

As for the other three captain picks... Just go straight down the points list. Mahan, Stricker, Furyk. Why even complicate things?

Maybe Rickie will just win this week and then I won't even have to think about it come Sunday evening.
