Day 7 Canadian Open: Maybe the end but really only the beginning

No point of my usually time run down today because I had such a great day I have no idea what time I even did things at.

Made it out to Hamilton mid-morning... John "the intern" haha was finishing up some stuff so I kinda had the morning to watch some Olympics on TV and attempt to get a tour of the CBS truck.

That tour of the CBS truck didn't take much convincing thanks to Nelson from PGA Tour. Honestly the PGA Tour guys this week have been awesome to me and have made my week superb. They put in a lot of work and certainly make things happen, so yes thank you Nelson for my Shotlink and CBS truck, totally eye opening.

So yes the truck... I imagined like 15 screens, one truck... How about, two rooms in the main truck and each has at least 45 screens! Let alone there are FIVE trucks (I think there could have been six) Absolutely, completely, crazy. Golf directors and producers.... I forever bow down to you. That is madness, I'd go nuts. So very neat to see inside there.

Anyways went back to the media centre then caught a few holes of Albin Choi since he was playing with Charl Schwartzel. I think that's just the greatest group for the amateur, getting to play with a Masters Champ who said he was the best amateur he'd ever played with... like wow. Canadian pride!

Back on track here, actually interviewed the scoreboard guy today because I thought his story was very unique and I always wondered who on earth made up those ginormous boards and wrote out all the names.. It's quite an art. No idea if that story will go online but I had fun writing it.

After that I went on a mission to find some volunteers to talk about their experience on camera...

Then came the other big highlight of the week. Getting to be inside the ropes on 18 for the trophy ceremony...

Seriously, I've seen these things on TV SO many times but this was really cool for me to take pictures and stand on the green, that cherished 18th green that I wanted to putt on all week. It was cool to snap my own pictures and be that close to the champ, Scott Piercy. I also never realized how long those guys stand there for photo ops, it's hilarious... some of them probably choke down the stretch just on purpose so they don't have to do the picture thing!!

Piercy was a very gracious champ and I had a little bit of a dislike for him early in the week when I originally read his comments about being "bored" out there however, he explain that his quotes were taken out of context and that this golf was just a different style than he was used to. He was genuinely excited to lift that trophy and this will also be his FIRST trip to the MASTERS with this win. I'll definitely be pulling for him there after getting so up close and personal.

Honestly this week has been like a dream come true doing what I love and I made some amazing media pals.

I really had my doubts earlier in the year if I wanted to work amongst golf media or if I really wanted to shake it and branch out to other sports and this just blew me out of the water and made me remember why I love this sport so much!

Thank you so very much to Terry and Ninja, I mean Dan, at Golf Canada for giving me the chance this week and also to those in the media centre who took me under their wing (ya that's you Hutchy & Rick). This is absolutely where I want to be and I'll keep working my butt off to get interview the champ on 18 green someday...

For now though, as nice as Golf Channel's Todd Lewis was to me this week I hope to someday stand in his shoes... literally. hahaha :)

Maybe when I actually get there I can get rid of the suit?!
Had to throw in one more funny for the week!! To cap it off, I start my Olympics internship tomorrow at 4am for two weeks at CTV in Scarborough.. Goodnight.
